Aeration

Aeration in turf is the process of perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate deep into the root zone. It’s a critical lawn care practice that promotes healthier, stronger turf—especially in high-traffic areas or compacted soils.

Why Aeration Matters for Turf Health

Over time, soil becomes compacted from foot traffic, mowing, and natural settling. When this happens, roots struggle to grow, and water or nutrients can’t move efficiently through the soil. Aeration solves this by:

  • Reducing soil compaction

  • Improving air exchange between soil and atmosphere

  • Enhancing water and fertilizer absorption

  • Promoting deeper, stronger root growth

  • Reducing thatch buildup

  • Boosting overall turf resilience and density

How It’s Done

At Maverick Landscape Enterprises, we use core aeration, the industry standard, which removes small plugs of soil from the turf. These plugs naturally break down over time, improving soil structure and encouraging microbial activity.

Best Time to Aerate:

  • Cool-season grasses (like fescue): Early spring or early fall

  • Warm-season grasses (like Bermuda or Zoysia): Late spring through early summer, during active growth

Aeration is essential for a healthy, lush lawn—especially when paired with proper mowing, fertilization, top dressing and irrigation.
Let Maverick revitalize your turf with expert aeration that sets the foundation for long-term lawn health.
